Art and Crafts

All Hallows Arts Alive - We are a thriving group set up, initially, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of our church. It is hard to believe we have been going for 13 years! We are keen to help people develop their interest and expertise in the arts in general.

Opportunities are in place to meet together for fellowship and encouragement and to enjoy practising our arts and crafts in a friendly environment.

We see art very much as having a place in worship and as a means of expressing our faith and love of God's creation. It is also a wonderful way of reaching out into our community and to members of other denominations in the Churches Together Group

Art in All Hallows

From time to time, usually in spring and in autumn, we hold Art Days on a variety of subjects from acrylic painting to flower arranging to poetry writing and we also organise visits to places of local interest.

Patchwork and Quilting in All Hallows

Every month, a patchwork and quilting group meets at the All Hallows Centre on Saturdays: 10 am to 2 pm, for all levels of ability.

Again, every month, mainly Fridays, an art group meets together indoors in members' houses or outside, depending on the weather and the time of year.

The Allerton Piecemakers, a small group of patch-workers, meet on the second Thursday of each month (the group size is restricted to 10). We make quilts to raffle for charity, have produced a frontal for the Children's Chapel in the Cathedral and are currently making small quilts for children through the 'Linus' charity.

Flowers and Gardens

All Hallows has a very active and busy flower-arranging team. We usually meet in small groups on a Friday morning in church to arrange the altar flowers for the following Sunday. Donations towards the flowers are received each week from members of the congregation, usually in memory of family members of friends, or to celebrate an anniversary. We also enjoy arranging flowers for weddings and other special occasions.

At Christmas, Easter and Harvest time we are particularly busy, decorating the whole church and on Mothering Sunday we make posies for the children to give their mothers. On these occasions we need lots of extra help from members of the congregation.

Members of our team belong to the Church of England Flower Arrangers' Association. We take part in the annual 'Sing to the Lord' flower festival, which is held in a different church in the diocese each year.

Two teams help to arrange flowers in the Cathedral two or three times a year and enjoy the challenge of making displays on a large scale. We have been grateful to many willing helpers during the last few years who have contributed towards our flower festivals and exhibitions at All Hallows.

More helpers are always welcome, so if you have a love of flowers, do come along.

During the summer a group of us have opened our gates for the 'All Hallows Open Gardens programme'. Our gardens are open to church members and friends, with tea, coffee, cake and friendship. This all makes for a summer of great afternoons out. Could your garden be on our next programme ?

If you are interested in joining any of the groups, please contact Norma (art and quilting), Margaret (quilting and open gardens) and Janet (flowers), using the contacts on the right-hand side of this page.
