Baptisms at All Hallows

Baptism marks the start of a journey of faith that involves becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family.

As a parent of a child being baptised, you are thanking God for the gift of your child’s life and making a decision to start him or her on that journey of faith with the support of the Church.

We baptise many children and adults at All Hallows and hope that these answers to questions will help you decide whether or not to bring youreslf or your child to baptism.

Baptism at All Hallows

Our baptism team is here to help you from your first enquiry through to the baptism service itself.

You can contact anyone of our Baptism Team by following one of the links on the right-hand side of this page or, if you prefer to speak to a member of our clergy first, call our Vicarage on 0151 724 1561.

We love to welcome people into the family of Christ at All Hallows and we are committed to supporting families from baptism and throughout their church life.

At baptism every child is given a present from All Hallows to start them on their journey. Our gift is:

  • A Bible to learn about the word of God
  • A candle to light their path
  • some seeds to live a life of expectation
  • milk and honey (actually chocolate!) for the journey
  • A children's book of prayers for sharing quiet moments
  • A card to welcome you into our church family

Adults are equally welcome to be baptised at All Hallows and our team will be able to answer all your questions.

We look forward to welcoming you into our church family.

You will, of course, have lots of questions. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we are asked.

What's the difference between a baptism and christening?

Nothing! They are simply two words for the same event.

If I live in Allerton, can I get my child baptised at All Hallows ?

Probably. If you live within the parish boundary, your child can most certainly be baptised at All Hallows

Do I have to come to church ?

It is not a legal requirement. However, you are promising to bring your child up in the faith of Christ, and sometimes we need the support of other Christians to do that. Why not find out how the church can support you in that journey.

Will my child be baptised during a normal Sunday service ?

Yes. Our Baptism Service happens on the third Sunday of each month. It is an integral part of our 10.15 am Family service. A child is baptised into the family of the church and we believe it is important to have the rest of the church there to welcome them into that family.

Will there be other children baptised at the same service ?

Because we have many requests for baptism, there are often one or two other families having children baptised at the same service. This seems to add to the sense of celebration. Occasionally there is only one child being baptised but we can never guarantee this.

After the service

We are sure you are planning your own celebration for after the service with family and friends. If you need a hall to hire for your celebration why not think about using our own All Hallows Centre. Just follow the link to learn more.
